Dr. Yazdani and his staff do everything they can to ensure that children are made to feel comfortable during their first visit. " We go out of our way to make sure that your child's first visit to our office is relaxing and positive." Regular dental visits are an important element in creating good oral health in children. The Canadian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends dental check-ups at least twice a year for most children, starting by the age of two. If your child has unusual growth patterns or an increased risk of tooth decay he/she may need to visit the office more often.

During the initial dental check-up, we will discuss your child's medical and dental history. Your child's teeth will be examined and cleaned to remove any plaque that could cause tooth decay. Your child's flouride status will be evaluated and a flouride solution may be applied to prevent cavities and strengthen teeth. During this visit, we will teach your child the proper techniques for brushing and flossing and the importance of limited snacking.

You can make the first visit to the dentist a fun and enjoyable. Your child should be informed of the visit, but leave the details of the visit up to the dentist and staff to explain. You are invited to stay with your child during the initial examination. On your subsequent visits to our office, it is usually easier to establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present. Our objective is to gain your child's confidence and overcome their apprehension. However, if you choose, you may come with your child to the treatment room.

Even if your child has never had a cavity, he/she can still benefit from regular visits to assess any changes in your child's oral and facial growth and development. Your child may need flouride supplements or sealants. We will also be able to identify any orthodontic problems and suggest treatment to keep your child's smile beautiful.

Dr. Yazdani, Wendy, and all the staff at the Aurora Family Health Centre have over 15 years experience working with children of all ages. They have been trained to work with children and will talk to your child in a way that they can understand using words, pictures and ideas.
